The Future is Now
Hola Chiz Heads! It’s been awhile….  Quiet your Hurried Lives!  Serenity Now!  Much to catch up on so please read on…   With the recent meteor exploding in our atmosphere and asteroid near misses, it seems appropriate to mention that TCS has successfully completed a second TRIP AROUND THE SUN with our Sherway Gardens location!   Our second location in Etobicoke (Sherway...

A Trip Around the Sun!
Hola M&M’s!   To all you Grld Chiz Lovers out there, LISTEN UP!  We’ve just completed our first year of business!  Or should I say, “Playin’ in a sandbox”?  Wow, being Chizee isn’t Izee!  I seem to remember the book-ends better than the middle….. muddle…. no middle.  Thanks sooo much for the support!  So many recipes have been developed and...

Hola Grld Chiz Maestros & Maestras!!
We are fast approaching our 1-yr anniversary at our Yonge & Eglinton Store - November 24 - so don’t be surprised to see me handing out some free GrldChiz coupons in the coming weeks!  Don’t worry, they don’t expire!  You may have surmised from Tcs’ long internet silence that our resident ChizWiz behind any of our social media has taken an incongruent path and resumed...

The Yonge and Grafton
The funny thing about this late post is that I actually got the photographs in on time. Just plain slipped my mind to actually get the post up. I guess that’s what happens when you’ve got grilled cheese on the brain, especially our new feature at our Yonge and Eglinton location, The Yonge and Grafton. This one takes influence from the east coast, by way of Eric. It is a Donair style...

And We're Back
I hope everyone had a great long weekend. I know everyone at The Construction Site enjoyed the time off. Well we’re back and we’ll be getting into the swing of things with a new Feature coming soon at Y&E. The Super Mario ran out on Saturday and Eric is taking some time to decide on exactly what he wants. In the meantime we’ll be running the Asiago Fresco and Prosciutto...

It's-a me, Mario! The Super Mario that is
In our fine tradition of pushing the boundaries with our features, Ernest brings us one of our most intense features yet, The Super Mario. His main focus in creating this feature was that it had to be Italian, and this is nothing if it isn’t Italian. It’s basically Spaghetti Bolognese on a grilled cheese. To make the bolognese we made a marinara sauce from scratch and added a mixture...

A Frustrating Few Days
A big apology to anyone who may have tried to visit our website in the past few days and saw a Tumblr error page. I guess we ran into some issues that can arise when you rely on someone else’s services. Oh well, whatever problems there were seem to be fixed now and we can move forward with grilled cheese goodness.

The Sheeva is Back
As happens approximately once a month, The Sheeva is brought back as our interim feature while we’re sourcing the ingredients for our next customer selected feature. As anyone will tell you, this is an awesome grilled cheese. If you haven’t had the opportunity to try it yet, swing by sometime in the next few days for a tasty treat.

The Julien, a Class Act
Today we are introducing our new Feature grilled cheese. It replaces the relatively long running Silver Slugger that had all the cheese on it, with a more refined flavour. This one takes the class level up a notch here at The Construction Site Y&E. Julien in all of his wisdom made only one request when picking his featured grilled cheese. He told us to just make one with short ribs....

Rise of the Silver Slugger
The Silver Slugger, the customer selected feature replacing The A.F.T., is just that, a slugger. Jason, the man who got to pick this one, wasn’t messing around when it came to making a grilled cheese. He knew what he wanted and it had to have a lot of cheese. It packs a cheesy punch with Fontina, Cheddar and Swiss cheeses. Matched with the Panini Bianca there is enough cheese to fill all the...

A.F.T. All Around
I have to start this post out with an apology to Ken. While the lateness of this post is apt considering the name of his feature, he deserves better. Well now that the A.F.T. has come and gone as our customer selected feature last week, I figured I might as well finally write a bit about it, since I thought it was a pretty solid one. While it was a simple concept with a simple execution, a Buffalo...

The Jack Hammer
Yeah, I know, its a boring title, but I couldn’t think of any jokes worthy, so I figured I might as well not try for fear of embarrassing myself. Well the Jack Hammer is the replacement Feature Grilled Cheese to the HotStepper and it follows it up quite well. While it’s not as in your face as the HotStepper was, the combination of flavours is awesome. It has a really great subtleness...

Another Week
It’s the beginning of another week and while it’s miserably cold outside, there are some great reasons to make the trek to The Construction Site for some great grilled cheese. Firstly we have our Monday student promotion with a classic grilled cheese, chips or salad and any Boylan’s vintage soda for $7 all-in. Not bad for those cash strapped students out there. We also have a...

Friday Twitter Contests
Probably a month or so ago I was a little bored one Friday morning and decided to play around with a little twitter contest. The idea of the contest was music trivia and to win you had to be the first one to get the correct song to play over grldRadio at our Yonge and Eglinton location. Well the response was relatively modest, but I was still amazed at how quickly the questions were answered. And...

Our First Promotion
So today begins our first promotion. And like everything, we figured we might as well start small and see what happens. So this is a pretty focussed one. Every Monday until the end of April, anyone who comes into our Yonge and Eglinton location, that can show that they are a student, can get a Classic grilled cheese, with our chips or salad and a bottle of Boylan’s vintage soda for $7 all...

The Jaw-Droppin' Hot-Steppin' Heart-Stoppin'...
I give you The Jaw-Droppin’ Hot-Steppin’ Heart-Stoppin’ Jalapeño Popper! When Narbir came up with The Hotstepper, the first thing that came to my mind was that this was perfect for epicness of Jalapeño Popper origins. This 1.33 lbs beast is awesomeness, in grilled cheese form. How is it made? Well, throw a whole pile of Jalapeño Havarti mixed with honey-roasted Jalapeños and...

ms-adventures-in-baking asked: Do you intend to post nutritional information at any point? I realize that with a revolving menu this can present a challenge, but those of us who are watching what we eat and would like to include your fine fare occasionally would love to have the details!

The Epic
It’s been a few weeks since I’ve done an epic version of anything, so I broke down today and decided to go for it. I had a bunch of great ideas for the Southern Hospitality in terms of epicness, but it ran out before I got a chance to play around. Well, I didn’t let that happen with The Hotstepper. What follows is a step by step account of some amazing epicness.

Here Comes The Hotstepper
Today we finally get our new special after some drawn out decision making, but I think it’s worth the wait, particularly for those of you that like a bit of heat. This one brings us back to something more along the lines of a traditional grilled cheese, after the fun and funkiness of Southern Hospitality. For this one we are using our Jalapeño Havarti, a nice and spicy Genoa Salami and some...

A Day Of Rest
While The Construction Site is generally open 7 days a week, sometimes you just need a day to relax and recharge. So we’re taking the lovely opportunity of Family Day to shut our doors for a day and take advantage of some collective “me” time. Maybe in this case it’s “we” time? Well whatever it is, we’ll be seeing you all again on Tuesday. I hope you all...

You Don't Win Friends with Salad
While those words have never been more apt, we made the decision pretty early on that we probably needed to have a salad option just in case there were crazy people out there that didn’t want rosemary potato chips with their grilled cheese. Well after a few months of playing around we’ve finally settled on a salad to include in our menu. On Monday at Sherway Gardens and today at Yonge...

So Much for Southern Hospitality
Well that title might sound a bit too negative, considering Southern Hospitality was quite the hit. So much so, that I didn’t even get a chance to make an epic version before we ran out of ingredients. That’s really disappointing too, because I had an amazing idea for that epic. Oh well, I’ll just save up the creative energies and put them to good use with the next feature. And...

A Crazy Week
Well I guess it’s been more than a crazy week. I just noticed today that I hadn’t updated the specials page (which is now the features page) since the Miss Piggy was our Featured grilled cheese. Now that’s about a month overdue, with the page never getting Ze Hüntbürg, The French Connection or Southern Hospitality. Well at least I got a chance to fix that today. I also got a...

Good Old Fashioned Southern Hospitality
So it’s been a bad week for posts and The Special. I really dropped the ball on keeping the site updated with where things were at with the special. I could blame it on a few things, but there a no excuses. Luckily, our newest Special selector, Darryl pulled me from my funk with an amazing Special. You are all in for a treat this week, because Darryl challenged us. He really came up with the...

The French Connection
Well over the weekend we ran out of Ze Hüntbürg. Somehow, though, in the mix of everything we didn’t get a customer to select the next special. In looking for a solution to the issue of a missing customer I made the call to just go with a staff selected special. So it is my pleasure to introduce to everyone The French Connection. It’s a rather simple concept for a grilled cheese, but...

Z-Ëpïc Hüntbürg
While this post is a bit late, considering Ze Hüntbürg has already been replaced, I still think late is better than never. On Friday last week we made what we hoped would be a masterpiece. We started by taking a sirloin roast and stuffing it with our 3 year old cheddar, caramelized onions and horseradish. We then covered the roast in a mixture of dijon mustard, horseradish, rosemary, cracked...
